Tell me you love me Come back and haunt me Oh, and I rush to the start
Running in circles Chasing our tails Coming back as we are
Nobody said it was easy Oh, it’s such a shame for us to part Nobody said it was easy No one ever said it would be so hard

Your reflection in the vanity mirror looked alien to you; you couldn’t place what exactly it was. Maybe it was the way your eyes looked dull and distant, like you weren’t really focusing on what was happening at the moment, when they should be sparkling with excitement. Or maybe it was the way the corners of your mouth hinted at a frown when they should be spread into a beaming grin that would round your cheeks.
You sucked in a deep breath, dabbing your makeup brush in a bit of blush and swiping it lightly over the apples of your cheeks. The diamond of your engagement ring caught the overhead lights and shimmered at you, as if reminding you about what was to come. As if telling you that now was the time to get excited, because as soon as you walked downstairs, there was going to a room of people expecting you to be thrilled.
The strange feeling that you’d been experiencing since late last night, while you lay in bed next to Taehyung, staring at the ring he’d given you, began to creep up again. It felt like a heaviness the bloomed from your chest and spread to your throat and the deepest parts of your stomach, making you feel as though you’d either throw up or burst into tears. You pursed your lips, staring at your face in the mirror, analyzing every little feature of yourself.
“You’re just nervous.” You said to the you sitting on the other side of the glass. “It’ll be fine. It’ll be good.”
The clicking of the card reader on your hotel room door pulled your attention, and you turned around just in time to have Hoseok and Jimin stumble into the room as they shouldered each other in a fight over who would get to come in first.
Hoseok shoved Jimin to the side, causing the younger boy to collide with the door of the closet. “Look at you, beautiful!”
Jimin straightened himself up, glaring at Hoseok for a second before turning his attention back to you, scurrying over to wrap his arms around you in a tight embrace that you wished wouldn’t end. “You look amazing, Y/N!”
“Thank you, Jiminnie.” You murmured into his shoulder, your fingers against his back.
Jimin pulled back slightly, just enough to look at you, and Hoseok stared at you from over his shoulder, both of them giving you a strange look. Hoseok was the one to speak up. “What’s up?”
“Nothing.” You responded instantly, the word coming out almost automatically.
“Y/N…” Jimin dragged out your name into almost a whine, plopping down next to you on the bench that was really only made for one, an arm still draped around your shoulders. “There’s something wrong. You’re not all cute and smiley like usual.”
“Thank you.” You deadpanned.
Jimin cleared his throat, correcting himself. “Still cute. Not smiley.”
Hoseok stood by the door, and you made your best effort to keep your gaze on Jimin’s concerned and pouting face. You knew that if you looked to Hoseok, you’d crumble. He’d known you for long enough–longer than anyone else. He’d know exactly what was going on, and you didn’t think you had it in you to cope with the knowing look that you could already tell was etched into his features.
“Are you nervous?” Hoseok asked quietly.
The sound of you swallowing seemed liked it could be heard from space in the otherwise complete silence. You simply nodded. “Exactly.”
“Oh.” Jimin nodded a few times, giving your shoulder a gentle squeeze. “That makes sense. You shouldn’t be, though. It’s gonna be a lot of fun. Everyone’s down there waiting for you.”
It was much easier to pull your mouth into a smile than you’d thought it would be, the action happening almost of its own accord with the way Jimin was beaming excitedly down at you. “I’ll be down in a couple of minutes.”
He nodded again, taking that as his cue to leave, and truthfully, you were grateful for that. Jimin bid you a small wave as he left the room, pausing to look expectantly as Hoseok, who just waved the younger boy off with a promise that he’d be down soon enough.
You turned yourself around, giving your back to Hoseok and staring intently down at the mess of makeup that littered the top of the vanity. There were several beats of silence, and you weren’t sure if Hoseok had decided to just turn away and leave surprisingly silently. You weren’t so lucky.
“Are you going to talk to me, or are we going to have to both pretend like nothing is happening?” He asked, his footsteps patting quietly against the carpet as he walked towards you.
“I’m fine, Hoseok.” You muttered, not wanting to use your full voice in fear that you’d snap at him.
He hummed behind you. “No, you’re not.”
You slammed your compact closed and lifted your head to narrow your eyes at his reflection. “Then let’s just pretend I am, okay?”
He sighed through his nose, stepping closer to you and leaning his hip against the edge of the vanity. “Does he know?”
“Know what?” You huffed.
“That you’re marrying Taehyung.”
Your eyes slid closed for a moment, your hands falling still as you let yourself inhale a very unsteady breath, reopening them as you let it out. “No.”
