“Please pick up.” you whispered as you paced the floor of your bedroom, “Come on, Momo pick up my damn call”
Your prayers were answered with the sound of your facetime call being accepted and seconds later your best friend’s face appeared on the screen in front of you.
“What’s up dude?” Momo asked as she shoved what looked like a burger into her mouth.
You squinted at the screen in disbelief “Did you make that yourself?”
Momo laughed, “Hell no, I ordered it” she flashed the burger in front of her camera “Do you really think I would be able to make something like this without the entire kitchen catching on fire?”
You sank down on your mattress, “I almost had a heart attack. I thought the big city had changed my best friend”
“Nope, I just make more money now so I can order out whenever I want.”
“Good, the last thing I need right now is to find out my best friend has become victim to the body snatchers” you sigh.
“I heard his song on the radio.”
You wince at her bluntness, but you were also thankful for it. You both knew that it was going to take you a while to muster up the courage to talk about why you were calling out of the blue. Momo was the only person you could talk to about this. Mina was too opinionated. Sana was too empathetic. You needed someone to be honest and straight with you. Except Momo was now hundreds of miles away.
“Yeah, so did I” you murmur, trying to not replay the first time you heard it in your head.
It had been a few weeks now and his song was haunting you. Every time you turned on the radio it was playing. Every time you tried to buy a carton of soy milk at the grocery store it was playing. You prepared yourself for the next time you went to karaoke because god knows someone probably already made it available.
For all you knew they were probably already producing a kids bop version.
